Winter Walking & Snow-Shoeing - Mayrhofen
Beloved by our summer guests, Mayrhofen remains a firm winter favourite too. Specially prepared walking paths offer excellent walking through the snow to neighbouring Tirolean villages. On your snow-shoes you can literally step off the beaten track into a winter wonderland of snowy peaks and plateaux and breathtaking panoramas.

Anyone who loves mountains will love being in these stunning Alpine landscapes in winter. Footpaths and forest trails run along valley bottoms and across lower mountain slopes, surrounding you with awe-inspiring views of snow-covered peaks. Snow-shoes simply clip onto your normal boots, allowing you to immediately walk across deep snowy pastures and up to small mountain plateaux.
Snow-shoeing (or raquettes) is fun and easy. You simply clip the snow-shoes onto your walking boots and in no time you are traversing the countryside on deep snow. With reasonable fitness you can reach summits and places of interest which would normally be unattainable unless on skis. These holidays include three days snow-shoeing with an experienced local guide, two days walking with an HF Holidays' leader, and a free day to explore independently.
Mayrhofen has a network of over 45km of specially
prepared footpaths with views of the majestic peaks of the
Ahorn and Penken rising from the valley floor. You can wander
gently through woodland or follow the Zillertal as far as
Zell-am-Ziller. Taking a local bus to the village of Brandberg
allows further exploration of the slopes of the Upper Zillertal.

Mayrhofen lies in the heart of the Tyirol, to the south-east
of Innsbruck, surrounded by a backdrop of magnificent,
snowy mountains. It is the largest of the villages in
the Ziller valley and is built on flat land at the
junction of four valleys. Many of the buildings are built
in traditional Tyirolean style. The village is lively, with
a variety of shops and facilities all within a few minutes'
walk of the hotel. Every type of shop is found in Mayrhofen,
including several supermarkets, bakeries, outdoor sports shops,
a pharmacy and local craft shops. There is a full programme
of winter events in the village, including concerts, dances
and folklore events organised and published by the Mayrhofen
Tourist Office.
Local Transport: Services up and down the valley are operated
by bus and train, with some of the trains being pulled by
steam locomotives. Bus services run into the other valleys,
and cable cars give access to the higher ground. The cost
of local transport is not included in the price of your holiday;
please allow €40 (approx. £30) per week in local
currency.
Snow-shoe hire: allow €10 (approx £8) per day payable locally
