Other days

Having fun

Our day starts with plenty of useful information, advice and interactive demonstrations on how to use our materials. Then the fun begins with step-by-step exercises and by the end of this lovely relaxed first day we’ve got a good grounding in pen and wash technique. Getting to know our materials is easy through hands-on practice and helpful advice for the beginners amongst us - and useful for those with some experience, they’ll develop their techniques. Our leader shows us some examples of pen and wash work which inspires us and opens up broad possibilities for us.

Mixing up colours

Today we use some objects and compositions to realise pictures with our new techniques. A variety of subject matter is used, always with the gentle guidance and patient support from our leader. A colour session gives us confidence and experience of colour mixing. In this relaxed environment we can bask in the sheer pleasure of art.

Free day

Our Discovery Points help you make the most out of your free day. There’s plenty of maps and a selection of the best local walking routes, as well as weather forecasts and public transport options – plus details about other places to visit.

Landscapes, oceans and flowers

Photos are now available so that we can explore a more varied subject matter including landscape, ocean and  florals.  If the weather permits, we’ll use the gardens and grounds for further sketching and we develop our own images using a variety of techniques.

Creating depth

Our leader offers further individual support as we develop picture ideas though exploring a variety of subjects. We discover ways to draw trees, water and create depth. Throughout the day, we get helpful advice on how to select and develop our sketching - and perhaps to enlarge, enhance and edit our interpretations.

Still life

A still life is today’s inspiration as we push the boundaries on our use of pen and wash, leaving us with plenty of ideas to take home with us. An informal exhibition of our artwork can be set up for everyone to enjoy. It’s entirely optional of course  - but it’s always lovely and interesting to see all our different interpretations. We’ll be delighted at what we’ve achieved this week!
