Join us on a tour of Puerto de la Cruz, once a small fishing village, but now a prosperous town on the north coast. We will see the fishing port, Puerto Pesquero, the Punta del Viento – a terrace offering views of the waves crashing onto the rocks below – and the small chapel of San Telmo as well as the colonial architecture which can be found her
Orotava Valley and the Orchid Gardens
The Orotava Valley has been described as one of the most beautiful places on earth. We stop at the historic centre of Orotava where you will have time to explore and marvel at the architectural treasures. We then return to Puerto de la Cruz and spend time at the oldest public garden on Tenerife, the Sitio Litre Orchid Gardens, home to the largest orchid collection on the island (350 different orchids), as well as some of the oldest dragon trees.
Mount Teide National Park
Today we visit the Parque Nacional de las Canadas del Teide – the main attraction of the island. There is a possibility to take the cable car to the summit of Mount Teide as well as doing a short walk around the striking rock formations of the Roques de Garcia.
Icod de los Vinos and Garachico fishing port
We visit one of Tenerife’s oldest towns, originally a Guanche settlement. It has been long established for its wine growing and famous for the Dragon Tree, reputed to be 2000 years old. We also have time for a walk around Garachico, a quiet fishing village with a dramatic past.
Anaga Mountains, La Laguna, and Chinamada
Today we visit the former historic capital of Tenerife, La Laguna, situated at the foot of the Anaga mountains. Even today the city is known as the cultural and religious capital of the island. In sharp contrast we continue to the hillside village of Chinamada, famous for its cave dwellings.

Volcanic activity is the major force that has created the landscape of Tenerife. Comparatively recent volcanic activity can be seen amongst the black sands of Las Arenas Negras. Most dramatic of all is the lunar scenery of the Teide National Park, situated in the centre of the island at an altitude of 7,000 feet. Rising above is the summit of Mount Teide itself, the highest mountain in the whole of Spain.
Puerto de la Cruz was originally a fishing village. However, tourism and general economic development have enriched the town and it is now a very prosperous part of Spain. Despite this, fishing is still an important activity in the town and fishing boats can be seen in the town’s port. This was the first resort to be developed on the island and was once the main tourist centre. Following construction of the new airport on the southern side of the island, emphasis has shifted to the newer resorts of Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas.
Puerto de la Cruz - an attractive town in its own right with a blend of old and new architecture and pedestrian areas that allow for a relaxed exploration. There is a coastal walkway heading east from Puerto which can be continued through banana plantations and, with a steep ascent, to Café Vista Paraiso.
The Botanical Gardens - have been used to acclimatise plants from around the world for introduction to Spain and are home to a wide array of tropical and subtropical plants.
Lago de Martianez - a large seawater swimming pool complex located on the waterfront at Puerto de la Cruz.
Loro Parque - an attractive zoo and a major Tenerife attraction. It is home to an extensive parrot collection (over 300 types), together with dolphins, sea lions, penguins and a shark tunnel. Easily reached by public transport, the bustling town of Santa Cruz is an interesting place to spend your free day. If you are interested in the history of the island, the Archaeological Museum and Military Museum are worth visiting.
If you wish to see more of the island, coach excursions can be booked through the hotel. You could also take a local bus to La Orotava, Garachico or La Laguna.
El Teide - can be ascended by cable-car when the weather conditions allow, but note that a permit is required from Santa Cruz to visit the actual summit which lies in an environmentally protected area.
Nestling in the lush Orotava Valley, La Orotava was home to many of the island’s wealthiest and noblest families who settled here after the Spanish conquest. The town is blessed with an abundance of impressive mansions, churches and monasteries, the best of which are the Gothic Iglesia de la Concepción and the Baroque Iglesia de San Agustín.
