Highlights of the sightseeing programme include:
The sweeping Stradun, or Placa
Visit the heart of Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik’s main pedestrianised thoroughfare passing right through the heart of the Old City was formed when the narrow channel that separated the Slavic settlement of Dubrovnik on the mainland from the Roman settlement on the island of Raus was filled in during the 12th century. Nowadays this smooth walkway links the two main entrances to the city.
Two kilometres of city walls
Views of the Adriatic Sea across Dubrovnik's rooftops
Join our leader for a walk along the city walls to see the best views of the terracotta rooftops and the sparkling blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. The city walls up to 12m thick and 25 m high are a stunning sight. Almost 2 kms in length they are the best preserved in Europe. These defences were built between the 8th and the 16th century and during this time they were never once breached. (Please note, there are about 400 steps during the course of the city walls walk and only one escape route).
Woodlands, gardens and ancient buildings
The neighbouring island of Lokrum is perfect for some shady woodland walks or exploring the botanical garden. There is also a ruined monastery, or you may wish to walk up to the ruined hill fort where you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of Dubrovnik.
Journey by cable car for spectacular views of the Old City, islands and Adriatic Sea
Another perspective of the City is taken from the top of Mount Srd – a cable car will take you to the hill top and another rewarding panorama of the Old City, the Adriatic Sea and the islands.
Admission fees: Most admission costs are not included in the cost of the holiday. You should allow around 270 Kuna for the entrance costs, although reductions on admission costs are often available for students and senior citizens.
