Difficulty indicator

Difficulty is measured on many factors such as distance, ascent/descent, terrain, weather and more. There's no magic formula, but from our experience we use yellow for easy, orange for medium and red for hard. Challenger holidays require a high level of fitness and stamina.

More about difficulty levels

Holiday overview

Relish the challenge of exhilarating high level walks that venture to high summits and cols that are normally ‘off-limits’ on our Guided Walking holidays. Using cable-cars and then rough and steep paths, that may be exposed or have fixed ropes, we’ll aim for some of the area’s best summits. Most holidays have opportunities to bag some 3,000m (10,000ft) peaks; a memorable achievement that you’ll want to savour.

Holiday highlights

  • High mountain walks each day
  • Dramatic peaks of Szpiglasowy Weirch, Swinica and the Western Ridge
  • Challenge and adventure a plenty

Price includes

  • A full programme of guided walks
  • All transport to and from walks
  • The services of an experienced HF Holidays' leader
  • ‘With flight’ holidays include return flights from the UK and hotel transfers

Local area

Situated in the south of Poland just a short distance from the Slovakian border, at an altitude of around 840m above sea level, the town gives us an ideal base, with easy access to the Tatra National Park, and the surrounding area. The town itself has a busy shopping centre, with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars. Many small museums hope to entice visitors, and the streets are full of the culture brought to the town by the Podhale Highlanders, the original mountain folk of the Tatra area.

Immediately to the south of the town, the Tatra National Park covers a vast area. The impressive mountains rise to over 2,000m, with a mixture of open country, forest, and lakes, some secluded, some very busy. Part of the main ridge of the Tatras forms the border between Poland and Slovakia.

Zakopane - Relax and take time to enjoy the mountainous resort.

Dunajec river rafting - Enjoy a leisurely cruise in wooden canoes down the Dunajec river giving you a chance to enjoy the stunning Pieniny National Park.

Krakow - An era in Polish history. Krakow’s Old Town, along with Wawel Castle and the city’s Kazimierz district, were placed on the First World Heritage List, created by UNESCO in 1978.

Shops & facilties:

There are two small supermarkets (delikatesy) at the traffic lights near the hotel, but they do not open on Sunday. There are larger supermarkets on Krupowki St. There are hiking equipment and ski shops on Krupowki St. Also the “Intersport” shop is to the left of the traffic lights near the hotel. On the same street you will find banks with ATMs, a post office and at the north end of this street there is a large, mainly tourist market which is open daily.
