Difficulty indicator

Difficulty is measured on many factors such as distance, ascent/descent, terrain, weather and more. There's no magic formula, but from our experience we use yellow for easy, orange for medium and red for hard. Challenger holidays require a high level of fitness and stamina.

Holiday overview

New at HF Holidays

Relish the challenge of exhilarating high level walks that venture to high summits and cols that are normally ‘off-limits’ on our Guided Walking holidays. Using cable-cars and then rough and steep paths, that may be exposed or have fixed ropes, we’ll aim for some of the area’s best summits. Most holidays have opportunities to bag some 3,000m (10,000ft) peaks; a memorable achievement that you’ll want to savour.

Holiday highlights

  • High mountain walks each day
  • Dramatic peaks of Szpiglasowy Weirch, Swinica and the Western Ridge
  • Challenge and adventure a plenty

Price includes

  • A full programme of guided walks
  • All transport to and from walks
  • The services of an experienced HF Holidays' leader
  • ‘With flight’ holidays include return flights from the UK and hotel transfers
  • 7 nights' accommodation in en-suite rooms
  • Half Board - continental breakfast and evening meal

Our holidays at the Hotel Wersal are on Half Board basis and include breakfast and your evening meal.

In Poland it is traditional to eat cold meat, cheese and salad at breakfast. The hotel offers a buffet including these plus hot Polish sausages with eggs, cake, bread, cereal, fruit, tea and coffee.

Evening meal

Dinner is served in the “Wersal” restaurant which specialises in traditional Polish cuisine. Each evening you will be served a three course set menu, which has been designed to show you the many interesting dishes enjoyed in Polish households.

The hotel's cosy bar and lounge serves a selection of wines, beers and other refreshing drinks.

Picnic lunches

You can buy picnic lunches from the hotel (ordered the night before). Alternatively you could buy ingredients from the shops in town. On certain days it may be possible to eat in a local café. Your leader will advise.

Local area

Situated in the south of Poland just a short distance from the Slovakian border, at an altitude of around 840m above sea level, the town gives us an ideal base, with easy access to the Tatra National Park, and the surrounding area. The town itself has a busy shopping centre, with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars. Many small museums hope to entice visitors, and the streets are full of the culture brought to the town by the Podhale Highlanders, the original mountain folk of the Tatra area.

Immediately to the south of the town, the Tatra National Park covers a vast area. The impressive mountains rise to over 2,000m, with a mixture of open country, forest, and lakes, some secluded, some very busy. Part of the main ridge of the Tatras forms the border between Poland and Slovakia.

Zakopane - Relax and take time to enjoy the mountainous resort.

Dunajec river rafting - Enjoy a leisurely cruise in wooden canoes down the Dunajec river giving you a chance to enjoy the stunning Pieniny National Park.

Krakow - An era in Polish history. Krakow’s Old Town, along with Wawel Castle and the city’s Kazimierz district, were placed on the First World Heritage List, created by UNESCO in 1978.

Shops & facilties:

There are two small supermarkets (delikatesy) at the traffic lights near the hotel, but they do not open on Sunday. There are larger supermarkets on Krupowki St. There are hiking equipment and ski shops on Krupowki St. Also the “Intersport” shop is to the left of the traffic lights near the hotel. On the same street you will find banks with ATMs, a post office and at the north end of this street there is a large, mainly tourist market which is open daily.

Travel

‘With flight’ holidays

For flight times and prices please see the Dates and Prices tab.

We offer flights from London Heathrow to Krakow.

If you book a ‘with flight’ holiday with us, we automatically include transfers between the airport and the hotel. The coach transfer to Zakopane takes 2 hours.

Independent travellers

All our overseas holidays can also be booked without a flight. This is ideal if you are travelling from overseas, or prefer to make your own arrangements from your local airport. If you choose this option the transfer to the hotel is not included.

HF Holidays can help you to reach the hotel by joining our transfer coach from Krakow airport. These are timed to meet the HF Holidays’ flights (provisional HF Holidays’ flight times can be found on the dates and prices tab or call 020 8732 1220). Cost per single journey is £12. Please note that HF Holidays is not responsible for your onward travel if you fail to meet the transfer coach under any circumstance.
