Saturday: Arrival day
You can check-in to your room from 2.30pm onwards. Tea and coffee are available throughout the afternoon the lounge. We invite everyone to dinner at 7.30pm. This is the first occasion when everyone meets together. After dinner we’ll introduce your leader and tell you more about your holiday
Sunday: Around Alltshellach and North Ballachulish
Today we'll walk the areas around North Ballachulish which gives us a range of landscape subjects to help develop and practice our photographic skills. We'll spend the afternoon looking at the tremendous possibilities of image manipulation to turn a good image into a great one. We'll then have an introduction to the software. By dinner time you will be uploading and editing the first images you shot in the morning.
Monday: Glen Coe, Buachaille Etive Mor and Black Rock cottage
We start the day with another photo-editing session. Skills to be tackled this morning include Cropping, Straightening horizons and Perspectives, Adjusting Brightness, Contrast and Colours and introducing the concept of “Layers”.
After lunch we leave to explore Glen Coe. We'll travel up the valley, pausing at several viewpoints, to Blackrock Cottage for one of Scotland’s iconic vistas. Before dinner we will have a review/tutorial session where we can share knowledge and plan for the following days.
Tuesday: All around Moidart
Today starts with the short ferry ride to Moidart. We then follow the A861 to Strontian with photos stops along the way and reaching Glenuig Bay in time for lunch. The afternoon sees us arriving at the Glenfinnan monument, a breathtaking landscape with the head of Loch Shiel in front and the Harry Potter railway viaduct behind. The circuit of Moidart is completed by travelling along the south shore of Loch Eil with fantastic views of Ben Nevis.
Wednesday: Free day
A free day for you to explore the local area or relax in the Country House
Thursday: Glen Etive and Rannoch Moor
The morning starts with trying some more sophisticated photo-editing capabilities like Adjustment Layers and Masking. After lunch we drive to Glen Etive and on down to the head of Loch Etive with many opportunities to photograph waterfalls and mountains. We may be lucky enough to catch some white water kayakers along the way. Weather permitting, the later start will help us capture beautiful sunsets as we return to Alltshellach.
Friday: Castle and Lochs
Today we travel to Connel Bridge, stopping along the way to view Castle Stalker set against the Mountains of Morvern and Port Appin (for a short walk to a natural arch at Appin Rocks), returning to Alltshellach via Loch Creran.
We spend the afternoon editing the images we have taken over the last few days, practising the skills we have learned.
Saturday: depart after a leisurely breakfast
Sometimes things happen beyond our control – the weather, traffic jams or changes at the places we visit. If we need to adjust your holiday programme, for whatever reason, your leader will help smooth the way.

Discover the Highlands
Alltshellach is situated beside the shores of Loch Leven. This is a spectacular location with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.
About 2 miles away, across the loch is the village of Ballachulish. Here you’ll find a post office, food store and bank. A much wider range of facilities can be found in Fort William, about 14 miles to the north.
As the adventure capital of Britain, the Lochaber region is a popular destination for all outdoor enthusiasts. During your stay in Glen Coe you may enjoy visiting the following activities and places of interest:
Jacobite Steam Train
Ride the Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. This stunningly scenic line includes the famous Glenfinnan viaduct, featured in the Harry Potter films. Steam trains run every day and early booking is reccomended. www.westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite
Isle of Mull
Reached by car ferry from Oban, or Lochaline, Mull is one of the most popular Scottish islands. You could visit the colourful harbour at Tobermory or the abbey on Iona. www.calmac.co.uk/mull
Isle of Lismore
The peaceful island of Lismore is ideal for a relaxed exploration. You can hire bikes at Port Appin, about 30 minutes' drive south of Alltshellach, then take the short ferry crossing to the island.
The bustling harbour town of Oban, about 45 minutes' drive south of Alltshellach, is a popular destination. There's always plenty of activity around the harbour and its well worth the walk up to McCaig's Tower, a remarkable folly built in the style of a Roman ampitheatre, with commanding views over the town.
Eilean Donan Castle
Nearly 80 miles drive north from Alltshellach is this romantic and much photographed Scottish lochside castle. Located on a small island just offshore, the castle is isolated by the sea at high tide, only accessible via a stone bridge. www.eileandonancastle.com
Try your hand at ice climbing on the indoor wall at nearby Kinlochleven. www.ice-factor.co.uk
