Difficulty is measured on many factors such as distance, ascent/descent, terrain, weather and more. There's no magic formula, but from our experience we use yellow for easy, orange for medium and red for hard. Challenger holidays require a high level of fitness and stamina.

Weidach Self-guided Guest Booklet 2018

Our Self-guided Walking holidays offer the chance to explore independently whilst following our carefully planned walks at your own pace. Located on the Seefeld Plateau, this mountain resort offers easier walks and an excellent public transport network. Cross Alpine meadows, walk to the beautiful lake at Wildmoos and reward yourself with the coffee and cake culture. These holidays offer Bed & Breakfast, with the option to add evening meals as you wish.

Your room

Hotel Kristall has 40 comfortable bedrooms, most of which have balconies. As is usual in Austria, twin beds may be arranged in one large frame with separate mattresses and bedding.

All bedroom have en-suite bathrooms with bath or shower, telephone, satellite TV, safe, refrigerator and internet access.

The balconies offer a lovely view across the village and mountains.

The public rooms include an attractive lounge with open fire, sun terrace, public bar, games room, free internet access and ski/boot room.

There is also a large luxurious wellness centre, two indoor swimming pools, spa pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath, tepidarium, adventure and wellness showers and infrared sauna.


Our holidays at Hotel Kristall are on a bed & breakfast basis but you can pay a supplement to include an evening meal for the week.

The buffet-style breakfast has an extensive selection of breads and jams, fresh fruit, cheese, cold meats, cereals, pastries and cakes, smoked salmon and champagne (on sundays). Tea and coffee are also available.

Ingredients for a picnic lunch can be bought from local shops or you may choose to eat at a mountain hut.

Afternoon tea
Complimentary homemade cakes are served every afternoon.
The hotel has a bar serving beer, wine and spirits.

Evening meal
Hotel Kristall provides either a five course meal or a theme evening buffet. Particularly popular is the Tirolean feast, prepared with traditional recipes. All ingredients are sourced locally and are free range and organic where possible. Vegetarians and special diets can usually be catered for if requested in advance of the holiday. The hotel also offers an aperitif evening once a week in front of the open fire.

HF Holidays walks level 1 easier

4 to 7 miles (6.5–11km) on good paths through valleys and meadows. Up to 1,000 feet (300m) of ascent in a day.


This holiday includes detailed route notes and the relevant map(s) for five different walks, which allow you to explore the best the area has to offer. Each walk in your pack contains the transport information for getting to and from the route, places of interest along the way and recommended places for those all important refreshment breaks.

Our self-guided holiday on the Seefeld Plateau takes advantage of the excellent transport network allowing you to explore the contrasting scenery from the flower-filled meadows to the dramatic Spirit gorge, the coniferous forests of the Gaistal valley, to the lovely Wildmoos lake − not to mention the many Alpine huts along the way where you can enjoy the Tyrolean delicacies.

Your holiday price includes a transport pass for the local area so you can have flexibility on your holiday. The pass covers transport to and from all your walks each day as well as to some of the local attractions.

An introduction to the area

Set in verdant and gentle countryside, Weidach is a typical Tirolean village and one of the 24 hamlets in the 16km long Leutasch Valley. On many days we can walk straight from the hotel along the walking trails that explore the plateau.  

There are 150km of well-groomed walking trails criss-crossing the plateau. With its many restaurants and leisure faculties, you are ensured a warm welcome at every turn.

Local highlights

Seefeld  - If you would like to stay close to Weidach you may like to head to the village of Seefeld (short bus journey).Take time to wander around the many shops, restaurants and bars. An ideal place to buy souvenirs and gifts.From Seefeld you could take the funicular ride up the mountain to Rosshutte or a horse and carriage ride to local attractions. Also at Seefeld, there is the large indoor and open-air (heated) pool and leisure complex, tennis courts and the Wildmoos Plateau Golf Course.

Weidach - In Weidach the Alpenbad is a short walk away with its modern leisure pool facilities. You can use the free mountain bikes from the hotel or have a Nordic Walking lesson from the hotel.

Mittenwald – This is an excellent place to visit with shops and cafés and a cable car to the mountain top. Known for house paintings and its violin museum, you can get a direct bus from Weidach with an additional €1.90 to the bus pass.

Innsbruck - A little further afield, Innsbruck is an attractive, compact city with its famous ‘Golden Roof’ and beautiful, historic buildings. It offers excellent shopping and a wide selection of restaurants. The excellent railway service from Seefeld provides a cheap and efficient means to visit the Innsbruck, the ‘Capital of the Alps’ and the historic capital of Tirol. The views from the train are breath-taking. Places to visit include the Imperial Palace, the Royal Gardens, the cathedral and various churches of particular interest. Guided coach tours are available, whilst the old town is an attractive area for strolling and sightseeing.

Shops & facilities

Weidach is situated on the main bus route that links the five villages of the Seefeld Plateau and the hotel is within minutes of one of the chair lifts we will use during the week. The village has a good range of facilities for its size including a tourist office, a bank with ATM, souvenir shops, sport shops, a mini-market, bars and cafés, all within walking distance of the hotel.


We recognise that everyone’s travel arrangements are unique, so all our holidays to Europe can be booked ‘with flight’ or ‘without flight’, giving you more flexibility and choice.

‘With flight’ holidays – the hassle-free option

Book your holiday ‘with flight’ and choose between Heathrow and Manchester flights to Munich airport. For flight times and prices please see the Dates & Prices tab.

If you choose this option we automatically include return transfers between the airport and the hotel. The coach transfer takes approx 2 hours 30 minutes to the Hotel Kristall.

Please note guests travelling to Mayrhofen, Neustift and Tegernsee will also fly in to Munich. Leaders will be available at the airport to direct guests to the correct transfer coach.

‘Without flight’ holidays – the flexible travel option

Alternatively, tailor your journey to suit you by booking your holiday ‘without flight’ allowing you the freedom to book your own flights from your local airport.

If you choose this option, transfers are not included in the price. However, we can book you a seat on the HF Holidays’ transfer coach from Munich airport. This is timed to meet the HF Holidays’ flights* (provisional flight times can be found on the dates and prices tab or you can call us on 020 8732 1220 for more information). Cost per single journey is £35.00. Please note guests travelling to Mayrhofen, Neustift and Tegernsee will also fly in to Munich. Leaders will be available at the airport to direct guests to the correct transfer coach.
