Difficulty is measured on many factors such as distance, ascent/descent, terrain, weather and more. There's no magic formula, but from our experience we use yellow for easy, orange for medium and red for hard. Challenger holidays require a high level of fitness and stamina.
The glistening skyline of Vancouver stands in marked contrast to the remoteness of Denman and Hornby Islands or the rugged Wild Pacific Trail. When you’re done exploring on foot, take to the waters for black bear and whale watching.
- Explore cosmopolitan Vancouver and bohemian Victoria
- Hike in the mountains with views overlooking Vancouver
- Enjoy dramatic coastal paths on the Wild Pacific trail at Ucluelet
- Look out for black bear at Tofino

Days 1-3: Vancouver
Arrive in Vancouver (3nts). There's time to explore downtown Vancouver and walk in Lighthouse Park where our path winds through massive Douglas fir trees and red cedars with views of the ocean and the city skyline.
The next day we drive for 30-45 minutes out of Vancouver to the Cypress Mountain area for walks in spectacular scenery overlooking Howe Sound.
Days 4-5: Courtenay, Vancouver Island
Board the ferry for the 1½ hour crossing to Vancouver Island. Before reaching Courtenay we'll stop to walk at Rathtrevor beach (2nts).
The following day we take the ferry to Denman and Hornby Islands for an enjoyable coastal walk with views of the Straight of Georgia and the opportunity to spot sea lions. Later we'll walk in the Seal Bay Regional Nature Park.
Days 6-9: Tofino
Take a walk in Cathedral Grove before driving to Tofino (4nts).
Whilst here we explore the coastal paths on the Wild Pacific Trail and 'artists loop' where we can watch for seals and sea lions, and experience the power of the Pacific as the waves surge and swirl against the rocky cliffs and headlands.
The next morning we will take a bear watching boat trip along the coast taking in fjords and sheltered bays. In the afternoon we'll walk amongst the Red Cedar trees on Meares Island.
We also include a day at leisure in Torfino with time to relax or join a wildlife-watching excursion.
Days 10-11: Around Victoria
We leave Tofino and drive to Victoria, Vancouver Island’s largest city for a 2-night stay. On the way we'll stop for walks at Rathtrevor Beach, and the small town of Chemainus.
The next day relax on a walking tour of downtown Victoria, with free time to enjoy this bohemian city. An optional whale-watching trip is also an option.
Days 12-14: Vancouver & return flight
Enjoy a final walk to the summit of Mount Douglas, with spectacular views of the Victoria area. We then return to Vancouver for a farewell dinner and final overnight.
