Welcome to British Columbia, home to cosmopolitan Vancouver, and the more remote wilderness areas of Tofino and Ucluelet on Vancouver Island where the dramatic ocean waves crash down on the rugged coastline. We'll spend time in Vancouver, exploring the city, as well as walking in the nearby mountains, giving wonderful views. Taking the ferry to Vancouver Island, we travel to Courtenay, then on to Tofino where we'll have the chance to view black bear and experience the Wild Pacific Trail.

The West Coast inspired Old House & Spa offers spacious rooms, heated outdoor pool and hot-tub, and use of the Spa centre (any treatments payable locally)

Best Western Tin-Wis Resort, (or similar) Tofino, Vancouver Island (4nts)

3-star hotel located on the peaceful Mackenzie Beach off Clayoquot Sound. All rooms have ocean view, and the hotel offers seaview hot-tub, ideal for soaking aching muscles after your day's activity. Beachfront Bistro also available for delicious local flavour meals.

Royal Scot Suite Hotel, (or similar)  Victoria, Vancouver Island (2nts)

Enjoy spacious, comfortable and clean en suite rooms at this centrally located hotel in downtown Victoria, the largest city on Vancouver Island. Indoor swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool available for your use.

Georgian Court, (or similar) Vancouver (1nt)

Our final night is back in Vancouver at this 4-star boutique hotel, member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Whirlpool, steam room available at the hotel.

On occasion we may need to change the accommodation listed above. If this happens, your replacement accommodation will be of the equivalent standard or higher. In the rare instance this is not possible, we will contact you in advance.

HF Holidays walks grade 2 easyWalks are part and full day between 1 and 7 miles (1.5-11km), with up to 1,500ft (450m) of ascent. City and easy forest walks, exciting coastal walks and mountain walks are all part of this amazing new holiday.


Days 1-3: arrive in Vancouver (3nts). Explore downtown Vancouver, walk in Lighthouse Park, enjoy a full day mountain walk.

Days 4-5: enjoy a short walk before boarding the ferry to Vancouver Island. Arrive in Courtenay (2nts). Walks on Denman and Hornby islands, and Seal Bay Nature Park.

Days 6-9: short walk in Cathedral Grove before driving to Tofino (4nts). Explore the coastal paths on the Wild Pacific Trail from Ucluelet, take a morning looking for black bears on a boat trip and walk on the amazing Big Trail, home to the largest Western Red Cedar tree. One day at leisure, or optional excursions/walking available locally.

Days 10-11: travel to Victoria (2nts) with stops en route. Walking tour of downtown Victoria, with free time to enjoy this bohemian city or a whalewatching trip.

Day 12: walk to the summit of Mount Douglas, with spectacular views of the Victoria area. Return to Vancouver for farewell dinner and final overnight.

Day 13: last minute shopping, visit Steveston Village with scenic fisherman’s wharf before returning to the airport for flight home.

Day 14: arrive UK.

General Information


A full passport is required.


British citizens, and those of Australia and New Zealand will need to present an ETA (electronic travel authorisation) to board your flight. The cost is approx £3.50 and covers you for 5 years. You will need to apply in advance. Please see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp for more information. If you are a dual Canada-UK national, you are recommended to travel with your Canadian passport.

Other nationals should check with their nearest Canadian embassy or consulate for details of entry requirements.

Health advice

Canadian medical services are excellent, but can be expensive and in some areas surcharges are imposed for visitors. Medical insurance is therefore essential.


We travel to Western Canada between June and September. These are the sunny months, with temperatures ranging from approx 15 -20° in Vancouver. Expect some rain on this western coast, particularly on Vancouver Island. 


The local currency in Canada is the Canadian Dollar. Credit cards are widely accepted. Traveller’s cheques are not advised.
