What skills do I need

It takes a special kind of someone to become an HF Holidays Leader. Aside from being passionate about walking, you’ll need to be a great communicator who can work closely and constructively with other leaders as well as our country house teams. You’ll also need to make a minimum commitment to lead for three weeks, every two years.  

While previous experience is not essential, we’d like our HF Holidays leaders to be: 

• Friendly and approachable 
• Reliable, punctual, and well organised
• Cheery on the greyest and wettest of days 
• Sensitive to the needs of others 
• Confident to speak in front of small groups 
• Welcoming, especially to new walkers
• An excellent navigator with knowledge of map-reading
• Able to use a compass 
• Experienced in walking the types of landscapes they want to lead in 
• Fit enough to lead five full-day walks in a week 
• Confident to lead a walk without having covered the route previously
