Make the most of the May half term on a spectacular family holiday. The summer half term and bank holidays come just at the point where families are craving an escape from the school year and the chance to break out on a walking holiday in the company of experienced guides and activity leaders. What's more a May half term family holiday is the perfect time to explore the British countryside with kids, avoiding the height of summer and crowds that can come with that.
As the mercury rises, destinations to discover during May come into their own as we edge towards midsummer, with longer days and hopefully plenty of warm sunshine. A great way to enjoy the great outdoors is by staying at one of our comfortable country houses all across the UK.
The rolling hills around Church Stretton meanwhile offer fabulous views in May. Our country house, Longmynd House, has extensive grounds with plenty of space to play, a wildlife sculpture trail and an outdoor heated pool. Iron Age forts, train rides and walks straight from the door over Carding Mill Valley and the mysterious Stiperstones make this a perfect location for a May half term family holiday.
The Isle of Wight provides some stiff competition though, with our country house, Freshwater Bay, benefiting from a fantastic seaside location just above the beach. It’s location makes it one of our most popular family holiday destinations at any time of year, but during the May half term you get a bit more space when searching for dinosaur footprints on the beach, collecting coloured sands at Alum Bay and enjoying stunning walks on coastal paths and trails before beating a retreat to the extensive grounds, children’s playground and outdoor heated pool back at the house.
