Lake District: Keswick & Threlkeld Path Update
In 2015 Storm Desmond hit various parts of the UK with a vengeance. In the Lake District it caused major flooding including along the River Greta where 200 metres of the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path was washed away. This is a popular and very accessible path for walkers and cyclists through some of the most beautiful countryside of the northern lakes. Two old railway bridges over the River Greta – Low Pearson’s Bridge and Brundholme Bridge - were destroyed while Rawsome Bridge was left at risk of collapse and had to be closed.

Walk Together to Change Young Lives
We've partnered up with BBC Children in Need! HF Holidays has always been an organisation which encourages people to get outside on foot and enjoy the countryside. In addition, we have a long history of supporting projects which facilitate this aim. With this in mind, and as an official partner of BBC Children in Need, we’d like to take the opportunity to encourage you to go walking or rambling on the 5th and 6th October to help support the BBC Children in Need’s 2019 Appeal.

One of the many joys of walking in the great outdoors is the opportunity to get closer to nature – proven to be beneficial to both physical and mental health. The sound of birdsong is an important part of this experience but sadly, the British bird population – and that of other wildlife - is in steep decline due to a number of different human activities.

HF Holidays Donates to Rescue Organisations
HF Holidays supports a range of projects which are related to people’s access to and enjoyment of the UK countryside. As well as facilitating The Pathways Fund – where donations from guests and members are channelled into worthwhile projects – we also provide corporate donations. For 2019 we are pleased to once again be able to donate funds to a number of Mountain Rescue and Air Ambulance organisations.
These organisations are all run on a charitable basis with no funding from the government and many of their staff work on a voluntary basis. They all carry out vital work assisting people in emergency situations. All the chosen organisations operate in areas where HF Holidays guests go walking.

National GetOutside Day – Sunday 29 September
When was the last time that someone said: “Will you go out with me?” to you?! Well, that’s exactly what the Ordnance Survey are asking. Their aim – which very much aligns with the foundations that HF Holidays is built on – is to help more people to get outside more often. They want as many people as possible to discover the best outdoors assets Britain has to offer and the benefits that outdoor activity can bring.
