April and August departures
I have had a lifelong interest in railways, I have been a member of the Great Central Railway (a full-size steam heritage railway in Leicestershire, UK) since 1975 and enjoy visiting steam railways up and down the UK. For the last 20 years of my working life, I worked as a freelance project planning specialist on many Signalling and Telecomms projects, giving me the opportunity to do lineside site visits which were a real highlight of the job. I have my own live steam miniature railway engine, which is capable of passenger hauling, and I am currently making another. Another ongoing project is building an N gauge model railway based on the area where I grew up. I have a fascination for all things mechanical, particularly steam powered, be it railways, canals, agriculture, motor transport etc and I love to share my interest with others.

Dave Stewart
Dave Stewart
Dave was brought up in a singing family where songs were an everyday part of life, not only around the home (he was singing songs from the age of two!) but also in school and church choirs. Later he sang with the university choir at Leeds. Dave left full-time teaching in 2006 to broaden his “range” to include adults as well as children. He leads workshops ranging from helping adult church congregations, to infant refugees in need of fun and belonging.
Dave believes that singing is a birthright, so we should all have the opportunity and encouragement to use our natural voices if we want to. He believes that singing has multiple benefits: it builds confidence, raises energy levels, develops cooperation and unity in a group, and of course it makes you feel great! Dave has held these beliefs since he started teaching and applies them throughout his work.
“If you can walk then you can dance, if you can talk then you can sing.”
An inspirational singing teacher. Well prepared with interesting range of songs for all levels of ability.
Joan Stonehouse
Joan Stonehouse
Joan holds qualifications in Iyengar Yoga and is also certified by the British Wheel of Yoga. Her teaching concentrates on correct alignment, hence maximum benefit and safety in the poses. Classes will be always be planned to suit the needs and aptitudes of the group with regard to the postures chosen and the overall physical demands involved in a session. Depending upon the circumstances therefore, a session may be gentle and involve mainly basic postures or could be more demanding with the inclusion of more advanced postures where appropriate. In any event, her approach is such that whatever the posture every student will be able to make a start and so gain some benefit from it.
Overall students will be encouraged to regard their Yoga practise as a mindful exploration of body and mind, designed to increase strength and flexibility in equal measure which, combined with meditation and visualisation sessions in the evenings, will do much to reduce anxiety and stress and promote a vibrant feeling of wellbeing.

The rock faces, gorges, waterfalls, deserts, and giant trees and wildlife are truly unforgettable. Paraphrasing John Muir – ‘they do not exist as views but saturate themselves into one’s body and live always’.

I have spent most of my life working in the travel industry, being a travel consultant, tour operator, hostess, Representative, a tour manager and a guide.
This has enabled me to travel extensively and see so many places, which is my passion.
I have lived in the UK, Portugal, Belgium, Greece, The Netherlands, Italy and New Zealand and have been lucky enough to travel further afield and to many other countries.
My late husband was Dutch and we lived in Groningen, in the North of the Netherlands and my daughter was born there. I have a Dutch Fine Art Degree. We emigrated to live in Auckland, which was a very exciting time and my son was born there. I have also been lucky enough to be a co-owner of a villa in Greece which led to many happy holidays.
I enjoy dancing Ceroc (modern jive), photography, the arts in general, archaeology, architecture, visiting places of interest and finding out about other cultures and languages.
I love tour leading as I get to meet so many wonderful people, see so many fascinating places and try out many new things. Every day is different, interesting and often amusing too.

For the past 8 years Fiona has performed her solo classical cabaret show abroad, latterly in the Canary Islands. It was during this time Fiona’s love of teaching initiated her starting a community choir for the ex-pats in Tenerife - "everyone welcome, no previous experience needed, a chance for ordinary folk to get together, sing together and have fun together". This proved so popular that it led to another choir which led to Fiona organising a "Les Miserable Concert" and led to further opportunities for the choir members.
Back in Scotland now, Fiona has three choirs and a small teaching practise and still sings when riding her horse! Believing passionately about the huge benefits of singing together, Fiona brings her experience of performing, her warmth, humour and professionalism to every singing session at HF Holidays.
To those who say, "I can’t sing a note, I'm tone deaf" she answers "Singing is a bit like walking. If you can speak you can sing, if you can walk you can run - but not everyone will make it to the Olympics!"
