Our UK guided walking holidays are led by enthusiastic HF Holidays Leaders. As volunteers, they share their time out of a genuine passion for the outdoors and love helping people discover coast and countryside landscapes on foot.
Every leader undergoes a rigorous selection and training process, including first aid certification and walking leader qualifications tailored to the holidays they lead.
HF Holidays Tour Manager
On many of our European holidays and selected worldwide trips, you’ll have an HF Holidays Tour Manager to handle all in-destination travel arrangements and ensure everything runs smoothly. They provide practical help and support throughout your holiday, working closely with our expert local guides to deliver an exceptional experience from start to finish.
Local Leaders
When you join us on one of our international walking holidays, you’ll be guided by local leaders* who know the area like the back of their hand. From mountain villages in the Alps to coastal paths in Portugal, wherever they are these experts go beyond the guidebook to introduce you to the walking trails, cultural experiences, and local secrets that make each destination unique.
Special Interest Leaders
At our UK country houses, our special interest breaks are led by qualified and experienced leaders in a range of subjects, from art and bridge to yoga, music, and more. These leaders will help you pursue new hobbies or deepen your passion for existing ones in the most beautiful settings.

Meet some of our leaders
HF Holidays Leader
Since becoming an HF Holidays leader in 2018, Mark has shared his love for the great outdoors with hundreds of guests.
From trekking to Everest Base Camp and hiking the Camino de Santiago, to exploring the Shropshire Hills where he now lives, his walking expertise is invaluable.
Mark loves venturing off the beaten path to discover remote areas, and when he’s not leading, he can be found developing new walking routes for HF Holidays as one of our Field Advisors. Mark has even spent time representing members on the HF Board.
HF Holidays Tour Manager
After retiring from teaching, Linda pursued her two passions: playing and promoting women’s masters’ hockey and leading walks for HF Holidays.
Her love for walking began in her 30s, with the memorable ascent of Haystacks in the Lake District. This sparked a journey that led her to become an HF Holidays Leader and later a Tour Manager for our European trips.
Linda enjoys working closely with local leaders to navigate unexpected challenges, ensure each trip runs smoothly, and create unforgettable experiences for every guest.
Local Leader
Awarded “World’s Best Guide” by Wanderlust, Cusco-born Efrain Valles truly embodies the spirit of Peru.
With a deep love for his country and unrivalled expertise, he’s been making memorable moments for guests for almost 25 years and counts the likes of Princess Beatrice and Ed Sheeran among his A-list clientele.
Whether he’s navigating llama traffic jams or leading treks through incredible cloud forests, there’s no one better to guide our On the Trail of the Incas tour.
Special Interest Leader
Su knows a thing or two about singing. In 2006 she founded the Singing Our Socks Off (SOSO) community choir.
Since then, her SOSO’s group choirs have sprung up all over Merseyside, putting in performances across the region – including a memorable moment with opera star Russell Watson in 2016.
As an expert tutor on our HF Choir special interest breaks, Su is passionate about helping people build confidence and connect with others through a shared love of singing.
