WALK TOGETHER IN GOOD COMPANY
Our women-only walking holidays are designed to encourage more women to walk, connect and grow in confidence. Join a sociable and supportive group of like-minded women to walk classic long-distance trails like the West Highland Way or take on challenges such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
These holidays are led by HF Leaders of all genders who create an encouraging, inclusive environment where women can build skills and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with shared achievement.
Walking Holidays for Women across the UK
Most Walking Holidays for Women are based at our 16 HF Country Houses and run from a long weekend to nine nights. On arrival day, you’ll be welcomed to our country house with a cream tea where you can get to know your fellow group members. Mornings start with a cooked breakfast and a packed lunch to take with you on the walk.
Your HF Leader talks you through what to expect the night before each walk, keeps an eye on the weather, and runs a short safety briefing. The walking is what it would be on any of our guided walking weeks: five or six hours on the route, regular breaks and a packed lunch stop somewhere with a view.
Evenings are about three-course meals around shared tables among the other guests staying in the house that week before relaxing in the lounge, library, gardens or bar.
Navigation skills
Map, compass, pacing, contour reading, route choice, what to do when the cloud comes down.
Our Navigation holidays follow the National Navigation Award Scheme syllabus, with the option to complete the Bronze Navigator Award if you're starting from scratch, or the Silver Navigator Award if you're stepping up from there.
The groups are small — eight walkers to a leader — and the days mix indoor work with practical ground around the country house. Women who came on these holidays leave with skills to create their own route planning at home, and take on HF Holidays ever popular self-guided holidays
Walking a route end to end
Some of our Walking Holidays for Women climb a specific group of summits over a long weekend or over the week — the Yorkshire Three Peaks in two days, or a longer round of named hills in the Peak District. The walking is full-day on hilly ground with steeper climbs and longer distances; the country house is the base each evening; the achievement is one the group shares each evening over dinner.
Walking the West Highland Way end to end is done over nine nights with luggage moved between accommodations. You'll have a leader on the route each day and the satisfaction of a long line of country walked from Milngavie to Fort William. The trail uses partner hotels along the route, with the final night at our country house at Glen Coe.
