[title] => Choir and Walking
[introduction] =>
[description] => During your choir holiday, you’ll come together in the mornings to practice singing under the guidance of your choirmaster. The session will last around 3 hours, including mid-morning break, and will end at lunchtime.
Our singing sessions have been crafted to suit a range of abilities and both absolute beginners and seasoned singers are welcome. There’s no expectation of you to be able to sight-read sheet music, just turn up and sing – it’s all about taking part and having fun. We’ll be looking at a variety of different music pieces throughout, expect some well-known favourites as well as some new tunes. We’ll experiment with simple harmonies and key techniques, such as breathing and posture.
In the afternoons, we'll take to the great outdoors and enjoy a guided walk from the front door of our country house. Led by one of our experienced HF Holidays Leaders, we’ll explore the very best of the surrounding countryside. For more details about the walks, please view the Walks Information below.
In the early evening, you'll regroup for a fun refresher session before dinner.
On the final night, they'll be an option to take part in an informal performance, or you can choose to simply sit back and enjoy watching your fellow guests sing live. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show off and celebrate together in joyful song.
Walks Information:
Walk 1 – Friar’s Crag
Distance: 4.5 miles (7.5km) Ascent: 230 feet (70m)
In summary: We follow minor roads and a field path to Keswick. From the centre of town we head for the lake shore and Friars Crag viewpoint. We then stroll through Crow Park and retrace our steps along the Cumbria Way to return to the house.
Highlight: Panoramic views of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.
Walk 2 – Braithwaite via Hodgson's How
Distance: 3.5 miles (6km)
Ascent: 300 feet (80m)
In summary: From Derwent Bank we take a private road with great mountain views. Our walk takes us around the raised ground of Hodgson's How with mighty Skiddaw ahead of us. We continue into the quaint village of Braithwaite, before closely following attractive Newlands Beck and quiet minor roads back to the house.
Highlight: A lovely valley walk surrounded by magnificent lakeland fells.
Walk 3 – Crossthwaite and Fitz Park
Distance: 4 miles (6.5km)
Ascent: 200 feet (60m)
In summary: After leaving Portinscale along minor roads we join the now disused railway track before entering Fitz Park in Keswick. We cross the River Greta and enter the town centre. The return to Derwent Bank is along a level field path with fine views of surrounding fells.
Highlight: This is a walk of local historical interest with several significant places in the story of Cumbria along the way.
