Today we’ll visit Lord Armstrong’s magnificent estate, famous for being the first house in the world to be lit by hydraulic electricity. The house is surrounded by gorgeous gardens and woods and has over 30 miles of footpaths and lakeside walks. There are five lakes, a large rock garden and around seven million trees and shrubs including some made into a rhododendron maze. Entrance to Cragside isn’t included in the holiday price as many of you are already National Trust members and will be able to gain free entry if you show your membership card.  
This afternoon we spend time in Alnwick where you’re free to explore independently (entrance fees not included). There’s magnificent Alnwick Castle (also home to the Fusiliers Museum), the award-winning Alnwick Gardens and the Bailiffgate Museum. Stop by quirky Barter books to pick up a page-turner, visit Hulne Park, or explore the town’s coffee and craft shops. The choice is yours.

Transport yourself back 2,000 years with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall. Our journey takes us along almost half the wall’s length, visiting its top visitor attractions for a fascinating insight into what life was like in Roman Britain.  
Our first stop is the Roman Army Museum (entrance included), with the option of heading into Walltown Country Park if you want to stretch your legs and see the wall up close. We’ll then visit the fascinating archaeological site of Vindolanda (entrance included). This is an active archaeological site, so you’ll see ongoing research and conservation first hand, as well as experiencing world class visitor displays at the museum. 
Please note, our journey to the Roman Army museum is approx 1hr30. The road follows the route of Hadrian's Wall and you'll be able to see many sections of this historic monument as we travel.

This morning, a short drive takes us to the attractive village of Warkworth. Once there, we can visit Warkworth Castle, the Hermitage, or take a stroll to explore this characterful little village. The castle walls give us great views over the River Coquet and the surrounding coast and we can discover the castle’s links to the Percy family, Harry Hotspur, and William Shakespeare.  
In the afternoon, we’ll visit the beautiful Wallington Estate. The historic house is the former home of Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan and has many stories to tell whilst the grounds and gardens are the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring. Keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels, there’s a good chance of spotting them from the hide. 
Entrance to Warkworth Castle and Wallington Hall aren’t included in the holiday price as many of you are already National Trust/English Heritage members and will be able to gain free entry if you show your membership cards.

Today will be the highlight of the trip for many. At low tide, we cross the narrow causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. The island was one of the most important centres for early Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England. There are a number of things to do on the island, so we've left the itinerary open, leaving you free to spend your time as you wish. Options include visiting the castle and priory, stopping by the mead shop, or exploring the nature reserve  
Entrance fees are not included – Lindisfarne Priory is an English Heritage managed site, and Lindisfarne Castle – a National Trust managed site – please bring your membership cards if you have them, should you wish to visit. 
Following our visit, we’ll head to beautiful Bamburgh famed for its mighty coastal castle, glorious golden beach, and many charming cafés and craft shops. Bamburgh offers plenty of choice, so we’ve left the options open and suggest you explore independently. Options include discovering the story of the Bamburgh Bones, the heroism of Bamburgh local, Grace Darling, at the local RNLI museum, or enjoying time at the beach. Your leader will be happy to provide more ideas on places to visit.

We’ll start the morning by setting sail from Seahouses on a boat trip around the Farne Islands. This is a fantastic trip for wildlife watching and we’ll spend 1- 2 hours spotting some of the many nesting birds that call these islands home as well as the thriving colony of grey seals (an estimated 4,000 seals make their home on the islands). 
We end the day at Craster, where there’s the option to stretch your legs with a gentle walk along the shore towards Dunstanburgh Castle. There’ll be free time to visit the castle, explore the galleries, or celebrate the end of our journey together at the welcoming Jolly Fisherman Inn.   
Entrance to Dunstanburgh Castle isn’t included in the holiday price as many of you are already English Heritage members and will be able to gain free entry if you show your membership card.
