Stunning views of the Shropshire countryside from the dining room at Longmynd House

Why you need to visit the new and improved Longmynd House

Reading time: 3 - 5 minutes

There are few places more stunning to gaze out onto the green hills of Shropshire than Longmynd House – our country getaway just a stone’s throw from the market town of Church Stretton. Frequent visitors will already know that the location allows for easy drives to several places of interest, but the walking opportunities around the Shropshire Hills National Landscape are also glorious.

We’ve spent over £2 million so far and already shared the extensive plans of our full £4 million renovation project with our valued members. Completed last year, Phase I included external design touches that gave a nod to the building’s Edwardian past. The transformation of a communal open-plan lounge area with a floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Stretton Hills was also completed.

Reevaluating aesthetics and upgrading public areas and Premium guest rooms to enhance the member and guest experience has very much been the focus of the now-completed Phase II. As a B Corp, this is especially significant for HF Holidays, as it has a positive impact on sustaining the next generation of walkers and driving footfall in the local economy.

Here’s an update on how Longmynd House is emerging from its transformation as we continue to undergo a rolling programme of works.

Exclusive Premium guest rooms

Set against the backdrop of the Shropshire Hills, the windows from our 51 well-appointed guest rooms frame the dramatic landscape that makes Longmynd House such a magical destination. We’ve recently completed works on 10 Premium guest rooms, all of which now have new designer-led interiors, retro artworks, soft furnishings, British-madecarpets, and all the mod cons needed for a relaxing and welcoming stay. We’re confident that the new aesthetic will surpass the expectations of our members and guests as they unwind after a day of walking and sightseeing. We’re very much looking forward to continuing refurbishment works to the remaining guest rooms in Phase III.

Sociable communal spaces

For our members and guests seeking a home away from home, we understand that the communal spaces evolve with changing needs and expectations. With this in mind, we’ve designed versatile spaces that are all about convenience, community, and sociability. The comfortable lounge seating and panoramic floor-to-ceiling are perfect for those wanting to soak up the glorious backdrop of the Stretton Hills at any of time of day. There’s also large dining tables where members and guests can come together and share memories and experiences.

The new bar and kitchen areas

Our goal was to ensure the new bar space was designed to be used comfortably by members and guests both in the daytime and evening. Marked by two proud panthers at the entrance, the design, layout, and dimensions balance seating flexible enough for couples and larger groups. We’re equally excited about our new state-of-the-art kitchen which has now been brought upstairs to allow our team to provide a seamless operation in food service for the best possible experience at mealtimes.

Investing in a more sustainable future

Our Longmynd House renovations have gone beyond mere improvements. It has been an amazing chance for HF Holidays to breathe new life into the space while preserving its essence. Our aim has always been to maintain the unique character of the house whilst maximising its efficiency for a more sustainable future.

Sustainability measures include the installation of a biomass boiler, new windows to prevent heat loss, and upgrading the thermal qualities of refurbished bedrooms to help significantly reduce running costs. We are also in the process of creating a relaxing sun terrace with seats and shade to make the most of the outdoor area.

Dean Clark, HF Holidays’ Estates Manager, said: “It’s been a pleasure working on such an important Shropshire landmark and giving it a new lease of life for our guests to enjoy. The historic nature of the building has presented some challenges, which, without our team’s expertise, we couldn’t have overcome. We’re really proud of the work so far.  We can’t wait to move into the next phase and couldn’t be more excited about this new chapter in the house’s history.”
